The 2017 vision: How walk run wrestle began

Walk Run Wrestle actually started back in 2017. At the time, Bex and I were doing Couch to 5K, and of course, we were both huge WWE fans. We even tried a virtual run ourselves, but we quickly realised there was nothing out there that combined the two things we loved — running and wrestling.

That’s when the idea hit: why not make a challenge that mixes both passions and comes with medals that actually feel connected to wrestling? We wanted something virtual, because life was busy — we had kids, jobs, and responsibilities. At the same time, we wanted the brand to be about community. A place where people could make friends, connect, and enjoy the experience, not just treat it like another business. So we got to work.

We designed the logo, built a website, and even started sketching out medals. We were excited, but then we hit the first real roadblock: finding a supplier who could make the medals exactly as we imagined.

We tried ordering a few prototypes, but nothing was right. The size, weight, and shape had to be compromised to fit what suppliers could actually produce. When the medals arrived, we knew immediately they weren’t what we wanted. They just didn’t feel like the reward we had pictured. In the end, we never launched.

It was frustrating, upsetting even — we had all the vision but couldn’t make it a reality. Still, even though the project was paused, we always knew that one day we’d come back to it and do it properly. That pause set the stage for what would eventually become Walk Run Wrestle — a brand built not just on running or wrestling, but on the dedication to doing it your way.
